Tickets $25

(Detroit, MI) Jazz Cafe is proud to present the return of one of our favorite artists, the one-two punch of Grammy-nominated jazz trumpeter Russell Gunn and his Quartet featuring Grammy-winning vocalist Dionne Farris, as they combine for a very special two nights and 3 shows- Thursday, September 18 at 8PM and Friday, September 19th at 8pm and 10 pm in the intimateJazz Cafe.

The Russell Gunn Quartet, ensures an eclectic genre bending experience that fuses Ms Farris multi faceted vocal ability which melds, hip-hop, pop, soul, gospel, R&B and now with this innovative Quartet, she adds Jazz to her repertoire.

Dionne Farris  sang on three songs with the hip hop group Arrested Development. In 1995, she had a solo hit single called "I Know", which hit number four on the Billboard Hot 100 and was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance in 1996. Then in 1997, she had another hit, "Hopeless" (written by Van Hunt) from the Love Jones soundtrack.

Their latest release, “Dionne Get Your Gunn” was released in early 2013 and have been touring regularly since.

Trumpeter, Russell Gunn's virtuoso reach and command of all musical styles from funk to the avant-garde evidenced a serious new talent on the scene.

Gunn's eclectic musical approach also brought him together with artists like Cee-Lo , Maxwell, D'Angelo, Ne-Yo, Branford Marsalis, and Jazz at Lincoln Center, while continuing to perform with his own groups and push the boundaries of how music is heard.

With a singular style that incorporates the influences of masters like Miles Davis, Lee Morgan, and the underrated Booker Little, Gunn has continued to gain recognition for his own music through touring and well-received albums, including the Grammy-nominated Ethnomusicology, Vol. 1 and Ethnomusicology Vol. 2.

Ken's Loud Band

Combined, the five members of Ken's Loud Band bring several hundred years of musical experience together. From stints in pioneering alt/punk/prog bands such as Hype and The Blurbs, pioneering alt/folk/prog bands like Only A Mother, obscure alt/punk/pop bands like The Red Ball Jets and The Dog and Pony Show and delightful hair rock bands like The Bat Boys, one or another of these guys has either waxed poetic or raged against one machine or another or gazed at their own shoes, been emo or satirical at some time or another. Holed away in their secret practice lair, the guys still like to jam every week because it's still fun!
