Jordan Young Trio

In the last 10 years drummer Jordan Young has been making a name for himself as one of the premier jazz drummers in New York City. He has performed and recorded as sideman for many top jazz artists such as Javon Jackson, Steve Wilson, Steve Nelson and Peter Bernstein to name a few. Jordan has recorded two albums as a leader. His debut recording aptly named "The Jordan Young Group" was self released in 2010, and "Cymbal Melodies" released on the Posi-Tone label in 2013. Both recordings met with critical acclaim.  In addition, Jordan was recently selected to take part in the prestigious Artist Diploma program at The Juilliard School with travels around the globe representing the school. Currently, Jordan leads a successful organ trio that has toured internationally and performs steadily in and around the New York City area.  Naturally, the trio is inspired by all the great classic organ group's from the 60's and 70's. Artists such as Big John Patton, Jimmy Smith, Jack McDuff, Larry Young and Melvin Rhyne to name a few all play an important role in the development of the trio's sound. While rooted in the "Be-Bop" and "Soul-Jazz" tradition the trio comes together to create a hard swinging, creative and always forward thinking music.  He's bringing his latest trio to the motor city featuring Grammy Nominated organist Brian Charette and guitarist Ralph Tope.

Laura Rain & The Caesars

LAURA RAIN and the CAESARS

RETRO MODERN SOUL-BLUES-R&B

Gone are Nathaniel Mayer and Nolan Strong, Jackie Wilson and Darrell Banks, The Falcons and The Ohio Untouchables. Andre Williams resides in Chicago, Bettye LaVette in New Jersey. Fortune, Lu Pine, Groovesville, Impact, Ric-Tic, D-Town, Inferno, Hot Wax, Groove City Records, and so many more are but memories; Motown moved to California decades ago. Ye who abandoned all hope for Motor City rhythm and blues, enter here: Laura Rain and the Caesars are reclaiming the storied Detroit soul music legacy from the ravages of time, neglect, and electronic dance music.

The Caesars are veterans of the Motor City’s R&B, jazz, rock, and blues scenes. For more than a decade, the classically trained Laura Rain has been singing in Detroit and Los Angeles with an absolute freedom of expression, permitted by her wondrous voice, an instrument of infinite shadings in timbre that avails itself to effortless glides between registers. Often compared to Aretha Franklin, Rains’s fire, feeling, and expressiveness are all her own. Producer, co-writer, and guitarist George Friend, another Detroiter returned home from L.A., has made his mark in multiple genres–rockabilly (Robert Gordon), R&B (The Sun Messengers), and blues (Janiva Magness)–and released a hip solo album of West Coast blues, Looka Here!, in 2004. Phil Hale has played keyboards for everyone from Martha Reeves to George Clinton, Stanley Jordan, Bettye LaVette, and James Carter. Drummer Ron Pangborn, an original member of Was (Not Was), lays down beats that are perfectly fitted to the Caesars' retro-modern soul and blues.

Tom Hyslop of Blues Music Magazine says Laura Rain is “a force of nature...While clearly informed and inspired by soul and R&B styles dating, roughly speaking, from the years between 1965 and 1985, Electrified is vital music for these times.” Blues Junction’s David Mac calls Electrified “a super charged soul shot that generates enough energy to light a small town and ignite a fire under the ass of all of its inhabitants.” Reflecting a bygone era when songcraft and spine-tingling vocals outranked guitar solos, Laura Rain and the Caesars have waxed a superb album that falls squarely in the tradition of great soul music, and raised the bar significantly for their peers in today's blues scene.

in 2013, Laura Rain and the Caesars have been featured at the Anti Freeze Blues Fest, Tawas Blues By the Bay, Brighton Smokin' Jazz and Blues Barbecue, Marquette Area Blues Festival, Mackinac Island Music Festival, and in clubs from Detroit to Los Angeles.

Eric Watson

A pupil of a pupil of the great George Benson, and native of Pittsburgh Pa., Eric’s brother, Kennard, taught him guitar basics at the age of 10. “George Benson was Ken’s first teacher….. they were childhood friends, along with another guitar great from Pittsburgh; Jimmy Ponder. “Even though I was more interested in sports as a kid, I’ve always around music, and musicians, thanks to Ken”. I can remember at one point, Phyliss Hyman was the lead singer in his band”. At the age of 12, Eric moved to Detroit where he continued to excelled in sports: track, baseball, football, and basketball, which became his main sport. Eric was a two-time first team All-City performer and All-American in basketball at Cass Tech High in Detroit, where he was also rated the top point guard in the state of Michigan, a position held by Magic Johnson the previous year. However, too much basketball and not enough studying in his senior year forced Eric to turn down scholarship offers from many of the largest universities in the country. From Cass Tech he went to Schoolcraft College in Livonia Michigan, where he redeemed himself academically, won the state championship and earned a scholarship to Weber State College in Ogden Utah. There he played for the 14th rated team in the nation. Feeling that he had a chance, personnel wise, to win a national championship, Eric transferred back to Eastern Michigan University where he became team captain for the first EMU team to ever beat the University of Michigan. Unfortunately things didn't pan out for the team at EMU, denying Eric the opportunity of making it to the next level (the NBA). Once gone from EMU, and feeling that management would be similar to coaching, Eric managed a series of restaurants, pharmacies, and grocery stores. During this time he was also an assistant coach to Byron “Skip” Willis for the state champion Highland Park Community College basketball team. He later became an assistant coach of the defending world champion Detroit Doggs of the ABA, which had been headed by George “Iceman” Gervin, and assisted by “Skip” Willis the previous year. However, the team folded the next year. While managing a major cellphone company store, he was held up in a robbery. The trauma from that experience had him out of work for a year, during which his place of employment fired him while he was still out on medical leave. During this time, Eric became the head coach for Detroit's new ABA team the Motown Jammers, where he coached the likes of Jimmy King of the U of M's Fab 5, 7'3” Keith Closs formerly of the NBA LA Clippers, and high scoring Willie Burton formerly of the NBA Atlanta Hawks. Unfortunately the team folded after just a few games. Eric was forced to pick up his guitar (the thing that he loved to do most anyway).
