Jerome Clark began the formal study of guitar at Grinnell Music Studios in Detroit, MI. While attending private lessons he met renowned Detroit Guitarist Perry Hughes. Under Perry’s tutelage he began to play several clubs in and around the City. Some notable performances were with New York’s own Marlena Shaw and the late Charles “The Organ Grinder” Earland. While continuing his education at Eastern Michigan University he met the late Dr. Morris Lawrence, Director of Music for Washtenaw Community College. Under his directive he was exposed to all forms of music. During the past two decades Jerome has performed at world renown Bakers Keyboard Lounge, The Bird of Paradise in Ann Arbor, MI, the Chicago Theater, the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, and countless private engagements.
Jerome completed his first CD entitled ‘Water’. The title alone represents the smooth, blissful, vibrant but cool sounds of Detroit. In addition to his own CD, Jerome has also worked as a sideman for various groups in the metro Detroit area.. .In the summer of 2010, Jerome played at the Ribs and Soul Festival in downtown Detroit, the 15th annual Jazz on the River Festival in Trenton, MI, as well as the Metro Jazz Festival at Macomb College. Currently Jerome leads his own band entitled‘The Jerome Clark Trio. In 2012 Jerome open for saxophonist Water Beasley at the prestigious River raisin Festival. In addition he also open for sax man Warren Hill and flutist Alexander Zonjic for the Tiffin Ohio fourth annual Festival. During the fist four months of 2012 Jerome partnered with long time friend Dave McMurray for unforgettable performances at the world famous Bakers Keyboard lounge in Detroit. His band members include Master Bassist Craig Tyner; Keyboardist and Slide Guitarist Benson Wheeler; and Drummer Brian Holland. As well as master musician Glen Oliver. The band plays original music as well as cover songs arranged with a smooth jazz twist. He is currently working on his Next CD which will include original as well as cover tunes.
