The NJO pulls from members of Detroit's own Bridge Project Big Band. The small size of this dectet (10-piece ensemble) offers more musical possibilities in the material they perform. Because of this agility the NJO performs everything from jazz and bebop standards to modern funk and pop songs, all with a unique twist. On any given night you'll hear the music of Oliver Nelson, Tad Dameron, Bobby Timmons, coupled the music of Bjork, Thievary Corp, John Williams, and Anita Baker. But this isn't your typical band performing unique arrangements; the NJO also performs many original compositions of its members. The musicians themselves are all multi-talented, multi-instrumentalists; the ensemble's vocalist, Tracy Kash Thomas, even doubles on flute, piccolo, and piano!
