About Bob White’s Hastings Street Band:
Led by the dynamic Bob White, this ensemble captures the raw energy and sophisticated swing of Detroit’s golden jazz era. Known for their tight arrangements and improvisational prowess, the band pays homage to the legends who once lit up the nightclubs and theaters of Hastings Street with rhythm, soul, and style. Their performances revive the soundscape of a time when jazz was the heartbeat of the Motor City.
About Hastings Street:
Before the freeways, there was Hastings Street — the epicenter of Detroit’s Black culture and music scene from the 1920s to the 1950s. Stretching through the Black Bottom and Paradise Valley neighborhoods, Hastings Street was home to smoky jazz clubs, stylish ballrooms, barbershops, and Black-owned businesses. It birthed generations of musicians and created an unmatched legacy that helped shape America’s music history.
Come experience the spirit of that golden era — from the swing and blues to the bebop and beyond. Join us in celebrating Detroit’s rich jazz roots with a night of powerful music, storytelling, and nostalgic.
