Julian Lage is an American guitarist, composer & arranger living in New York City. Hailed as a child guitar prodigy, Julian was the subject of the Academy Award nominated documentary “Jules at 8.” Julian’s music is rooted in both traditional & acoustic forms and he has had the opportunity to collaborate with renowned artists such as Jim Hall, Mark O’Connor, Nels Cline, Chris Eldridge, Scott Colley, and Bela Fleck. In addition to his own quintet, Julian has recorded with Gary Burton, David Grisman, Eric Harland, Anthony Wilson, Martin Taylor, Joshua Bell and Yoko Ono.

In 2009, Julian released his debut recording “Sounding Point” on Universal Music. The album was nominated for a 2010 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Jazz Album of the Year. In 2013, Julian was featured on the critically acclaimed duo album “Free Flying” with pianist Fred Hersch. The recording received a coveted 5 star review in Down Beat magazine.

Projects for the 2015-2016 season include the acoustic guitar duo with Chris Eldridge of the Punch Brothers, the critically acclaimed duo with pianist Fred Hersch, and Julian’s new trio featuring Scott Colley and Kenny Wollesen. The New York Times recently reviewed their premier performance and declared, “a former prodigy continues to break ground in collaborations.” In addition, 2015 will see the release of a new recording with Nels Cline as well as Julian’s new solo guitar album.
