If you haven’t seen Sound Proof aka Sound Proof Jazz, you must’ve heard about them! The band continues to take Metro- Detroit by storm with their power vocals, great sound, and high energy performances. The group consists of (2) of Detroit’s most recognized vocalists:
Courtney Williams - a mixture of old school and new school, a mixture of Pop and R&B, and Soul with a blend that will never be forgotten. Music expresses that which cannot be put into words and that which cannot remain silent. Simply put, Courtney Williams writing skills and vocals are out of this world.
Courtney Williams was born and raised in Detroit Michigan and has been singing since he was 5 years old. Courtney got his start singing in his family's church and has always loved music. At an early age being inspired by such greats as Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye, Otis Redding, The Temptations, Boys II Men, Jodeci, Shai and many more. Like most artist that grew up singing in church, singing secular music had to grow on the family. And grow on them it did. Courtney's overall tone is one that uplifts, so after high school Courtney sang in many groups and noticed right away that he was able to reach people through music and his voice.
Courtney has an electrifying stage performance and truly love's being on stage. Anyone that has witnessed him sing on stage agrees that he has the ability to captivate his audience and is very gifted.
Charnissa Butts; singer, writer and actress is no stranger to the Detroit music scene!
She keeps the audiences entertained with “power house” vocals, and high energy performances! Charnissa also comes from a family of singers. She is the daughter of Charnissa Jones (Stephens) Charnissa Jones was known as Charnissa. She started as a member of the female group called Sweet Hearts of Soul. This group sang on the background vocals for the album of Aretha Franklin entitled "Aretha in Paris" in 1968. Also she appeared along with the female group Raylettes for Ray Charles on background vocals.
Sound Proof Band is known for their great sound, versatile & high energy performances. The band is equally talented performing jazz. They have opened up for Jazz greats: Alexander Zonjic, Chuck Loeb, Norman Brown, Jeff Lorber, and Marion Meadows to name a few.
Collectively they’re a force to be reckoned with!
OMAR SOSA'S QUARTETO AFRO CUBANO
Sosa's music is the unifying sort, yoking together Africa and jazz and Latin America and hip-hop. He makes it work, being one of
those rare birds whose keyboard skills are near those of Chick Corea or Chucho Valdés."

Ted Nagy www.tednagy.com
<span> "Ted Nagy takes a well-rounded approach to his songwriting; he studied Jazz at Wayne State University as well as a Creative Writing and continues to combine the two in all of his endeavors. As guitarist, musical director, and producer for several musical projects of poet M.L. Liebler, Nagy has performed with notable artists such as Arlo Guthrie, Ken Kesey, Luis Resto, John Sinclair, Country Joe McDonald. One of the founders of the Detroit International Jazz Festival, tonight Nagy will be performing his lyrically driven Americana solo work." I’ve recorded and produced a number of albums and other recordings including “Paper Ghost Raindance”, “Beneath The Grand Heaven”, “Live at Junkbaby Studios”, and have been featured on the Motown Ambassadors release of “Detroit City”, which can now be heard on <a href="http://eamtradio.com/" mce_href="http://eamtradio.com/" target="_blank">http://eamtradio.com/</a></span>
Big Nate Band
Singer/songwriter Steve D'Angelo takes you on a trip back to early Counting Crows on a 90's Lollapalooza tour. Influences truly span decades of rock including the Eagles, REM, U2, and Dave Matthews Band. Steve recorded his first full-length band album "Dangerous Words" and was released May 2013 at the Hard Rock Cafe, Detroit. Before this he recorded four underground albums from 1999-2006. One minute remnants of Dylan on harp echo on a solo ballad, with the next echoing sounds of early Atlanta 90s rock with the full-band. Steve has been compared to the guitar riffs of Jeff Buckley and sings with the vocal stylings of Elvis Costello.
Steve D'Angelo has been playing since his college days at the University of Central Florida in Orlando. Since then Steve has toured and played the Southeast and Midwest U. S. Steve broke onto the Detroit music scene in 2005 as a solo artist and later in 2014 created Big Nate Band. Steve has shared bills with other indie acts in the Motor City and recorded with guitarist/singer-songwriter Greg Stryker, who has toured with Eddie Money. He is continuing to book into the 2015 year and is available for solo, duo, and band shows as desired.
Big Nate Band is available to do festivals, house concerts and accommodate as an opening act or solid line-up on any bill. Steve has played Ford's Arts Beats and Eats the last two years and just played the Hamtramck Music Festival to benefit music education. Big Nate Band has played numerous venues as both an opening act and featured artist including the Hard Rock Detroit, Jazz Cafe at Music Hall, Berkley Front, PJ's Lager House, the Ritz and many more. Steve has also been a featured artist at local cafes, coffee shops, and bars in the Metro Detroit and Ann Arbor areas.
Steve is planning on a new studio run with his new Big Nate Band starting summer 2015 and touring again. The Big Nate Band includes: Steve D'Angelo (vox/guitars), Michael Plouffe (saxaphones), Jonathane Leavelle (Bass), and Eric Childress II (Drums).
I am MarBrisa. This name comes from my musical roots in Guatemala, where I discovered my passion for performing and writing music. It translates into two Spanish root words Mar, meaning sea, and Brisa, meaning breeze, and together these words translate into water and wind, which ultimately means emotional flow. My music carries a lot of emotion and soul, similar to the emotional ruggedness of an ocean, and continues to evolve and move unpredictably like water in whichever form it is in. It also carries a softness to it as it flows to one's soul, a breeze of musical edge to the ears. I hope to spark an emotion in the listener, inspire others to an artistic outlet, and exchange this international language of music to others.
Border Patrol is a lyrically-driven folk rock group with members from Hamtramck and Windsor. Their songs provide catharsis and try to touch on the struggles of poor mental health and the fear of the stark nature of an indifferent reality. The frontmen of the group, Cody Howard and Dave Toennies, are supported by a full band when not performing as a duo. They can be heard in both Windsor, CA, as well as the Metro Detroit area. Members: Dave Toennies - Guitar Vocals | Cody Howard - Banjo Vocals | Walter Senko - Keys Vocals | Chelsey Hudon - Vocals Aux | Ryan Haggarty - Bass Vocals.

The award-winning Scott Gwinnell Jazz Orchestra is one of this region's vital performing ensembles. Together now for 16 years, The SGJO plays the music of its creator Gwinnell, as well as arrangements of other band members and composers of note. The SGJO features some of the best jazz musicians, many bandleaders in their own rights. The SGJO has played internationally with Dave Liebman, at the Jazz Educator's Conference. They also closed down the 2009 Detroit Jazz Festival with a 5 minute standing ovation with a joint performance with jazz bassist and bandleader, John Clayton. The SGJO premiered Clayton's 45 minute work, "T.H.E. Detroit", commissioned for the Detroit Jazz Festival. It's 2010 recording, "Brush Fire" (WSG Records) was the recipient of best jazz recording and best modern jazz group from the Detroit Music Awards. The SGJO plays monthly at Cliff Bells Jazz Club, and occasionally branches out to festivals and other clubs.
Detroit Music Factory recording artist, Scott Gwinnell is a pianist/composer/arranger/educator from Detroit. He has performed/ recorded, and/or toured with: Aretha Franklin, Vanessa Williams, Roberta Flack, Joe Lovano, Dave Liebman, Jimmy Heath, John Clayton, Marcus Belgrave, Delfayo Marsalis, Steve Turre, and Jon Hendricks, for whom Scott was music director for three years. He has played on over 20 recordings and has 4 records to his own name (Basement Vibes, Scott Gwinnell Trio, Brush Fire, and the newly released Cass Corridor Story). Gwinnell’s trio was the Friday evening house-band at the historic London Chop House in Detroit.
As an 13 time award-winning BMI composer, Gwinnell has written over 400 compositions and arrangements, from solo piano to symphony orchestra. As an educator, Gwinnell has taught music full and part time at U of Toledo, Bowling Green S U, Wayne County CC, and Oakland University, where he presently teaches jazz piano and directs the vocal jazz ensemble. He is also the director of Vocal Jazz Education for Music Hall. Gwinnell is the creator and director of the Metro-Detroit Jazz Workshop, Detroit's largest private summer jazz workshop.
The SGJO and Gwinnell put education as a top priority. In their monthly gigs, they often feature stand-out high school jazz programs in an effort to inspire their young musicians with professionally played big band music. The SGJO welcomes, this month, opening group, T.J. Wolgram and the University-Liggett Big Band and Combo.
The Scott Gwinnell Jazz Orchestra:
Located in Grosse Pointe Woods, a short drive from the bustle of downtown Detroit, University Liggett School is a nationally recognized, experiential learning-based private school for children from prekindergarten (age 3) through 12th grade. Throughout their education, Liggett students have myriad opportunities to sing and to participate in instrumental music. At the Upper School level, any student may elect to enroll in band, through which they are exposed to a diverse curriculum of classical, jazz, and popular music units, manifested in solo performances, chamber ensembles, and the Liggett Jazz Band.
